About me
I am a Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) educator and Thanatologist who teaches Life Planning through a holistic, student-centered lens. My instruction is intentionally infused with social-emotional learning (SEL) prompts and thought-provoking questions that challenge students to reflect, connect, and grow.Life skills education must acknowledge the realities adolescents face, including stress, crisis, and emotional challenges for which many teens have not yet developed effective coping strategies. My classroom provides a safe and structured space where students engage with real-life scenarios, explore emotional and ethical responses, and examine how choices impact both short-term outcomes and long-term success.Through guided discussion, reflection, and peer learning, students gain insight into how actions can lead to growth, resilience, and success—or, conversely, to setbacks and failure. By learning from one another’s perspectives and experiences, students build critical thinking, empathy, self-awareness, and practical decision-making skills that extend far beyond the classroom. This approach honors the foundational mission of FACS while preparing students for the complexities of adult life, relationships, and careers.
